How could young people of quodam imagine that after 40 years it would still be urgent to respond to the Donkey? “Working my whole life for nothing, in the end, My pension: no carrots!” The Brazilian context never said goodbye to oppression and it is necessary once again to sing the story of these exploited animals that decide to free themselves from their bosses. Mixing elements of theater, dance, circus and music, the play tells the journey of a donkey, a dog, a chicken and a cat who decide to flee their homes and together form a musical band. In this perspective, the show is timeless. It addresses feelings of togetherness, brotherhood, empathy, dreams and perseverance. They are guided by the common thread in all revolutions: the desire for a better and more just world.
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of director Hugo Rodas, ATA - Agrupação Teatral Amacaca, the current troupe of the famous Uruguayan director living in Brasília, decided to honor the 1977 edition and the Pitú Group, these icons of the city's cultural history. The rerun contributes to the diffusion of the memory of a capital still burning to builds its own narratives. Within this context, Hugo Rodas is undoubtedly a foundation. Doctor for notorious knowledge, honorary citizen, professor emeritus at the University of Brasilia and “candango forever”, he is our guru of the Performing Arts, or better, of the Arts of Movement, which is the muscle on which he bases his poetic discourse and it's what the espectator must appreciate.
The reassembly debuted in July 2019 with the sponsorship of FAC - Cultural Support Fund for the Federal District and Banco do Brasil. It held 21 soldout sessions at Teatro I of Banco do Brasil Cultural Center. The show also participated in the main international theater festival in the Midwest - Cena Contemporânea - with performances in Gama and Ceilândia, where it conquered the mark of the largest audience in a single session of the festival. The show was invited to compose the programming for Teatro Garagem's 40th anniversary, where Hugo Rodas was honored. Then the show was presented at Teatro Galpão of the Espaço Cultural Renato Russo in a short season in october, the children's month. The show was also invited to participate in the MOTIM - I Festival of Musical Theater in Brasília. More than 10,000 people have seen the musical.
